Debate

I was proud of Obama. He did what he had to do. He showed that he had a great command of the issues and he acted very presidential. Which is important because the independents are looking for a reason not to vote for Obama...sorry, I'm drinking gin.

Food for Thought

Suspending the blog...

Until I get some better ideas to write about...

I mean, come on, McCain. How stupid do they think we are? Let's even look back at what Bush said after 9/11. He said we need to go about our normal lives, shop, don't be afraid...blah blah blah. Even Bush had his head on straighter than crazy ass McCain. Blah! I'm out, no more for today, I can't take it!!!!!

George Carlin on Evangelicals

"Think about it. Religion has actually convinced people that there’s an invisible man living in the sky who watches everything you do, every minute of every day. And the invisible man has a special list of ten things he does not want you to do. And if you do any of these ten things, he has a special place, full of fire and smoke and burning and torture and anguish, where he will send you to live and suffer and burn and choke and scream and cry forever and ever ’til the end of time! But He loves you. He loves you, and He needs money! He always needs money! He’s all-powerful, all-perfect, all-knowing, and all-wise, somehow just can’t handle money! Religion takes in billions of dollars, they pay no taxes, and they always need a little more. Now, you talk about a good bull%#*? story. Holy #%*?!”

Repub Rebuttals

How in the world are republican's claiming sexism is playing a part in this whole Palin fiasco? James Carville was on Larry King the other night and made a good point - how is it sexism to question the qualifications of someone running for the second highest office in the land? Wake up!

There was a McCain surrogate on Morning Joe today who said children of politicians have not been brought up in politics before 48 hours ago. Hmm...I seem to remember McCain himself making a joke about how Chelsea was the daughter of Hillary and Janet Reno. Funny how none of the hosts pointed that one out. It's also funny how the right acts all high and mighty like their shiza doesn't stink, when the actuality is that they've screwed up beyond belief. I'm 100% positive that I could do a better job running this country than McCain, Bush, Palin, or any one of those loons.

And, think about this - now that McCain is boycotting the media (what is this, 1st grade?) because he picked a woefully unprepared, inexperienced religious nut of a VP, what does this say about how he'll do with Putin or Ahmadinejad when they say things he doesn't like? Will he sit in a corner, put his ears in his ears and hold his breath until he gets his way? Grow up!!!!

Paz

Quick Thought

To me, this is the most important political election ever – not just because a black man is running for President, but because our country has essentially derailed. I am truly hopeful that we as a people will do the right thing and elect Obama, but you never know. When I interact with McCain supporters I think of an old proverb (I’m guessing from the Bible): “There is none so blind as those who will not see.”

Email About Palin

Here's an email I just sent out on Sarah Palin:

Ok, back from lunch, to finish...her speech definitely wasn't taken out of context (check the video) and she's had a history of similar statements citing how God wants us to do some sort of work. Here's a question - how is the right going to defend her crazy ass Pastor since the republicans had such a hard-on about Reverend Wright? Have you seen some of the things he's said? Here's an example:

"I hate criticisms towards the President," he said, "because it's like criticisms towards the pastor -- it's almost like, it's not going to get you anywhere, you know, except for hell. That's what it'll get you."

This is relevant because Palin wanted go all Fahrenheit 451 on a librarian who did not give her "full support" as Mayor, which amounted to Palin wanting to remove books with "inappropriate language". Really? Colin, you're an advocate of our Bill of Rights so i'm sure you like the First Amendment as much as I do:
  • [Former Wasilla mayor John Stein] says that as mayor, Palin continued to inject religious beliefs into her policy at times. "She asked the library how she could go about banning books," he says, because some voters thought they had inappropriate language in them. "The librarian was aghast." The librarian, Mary Ellen Baker, couldn't be reached for comment, but news reports from the time show that Palin had threatened to fire her for not giving "full support" to the mayor. (http://www.time.com/time/printout/0,8816,1837918,00.html) and (http://www.adn.com/sarahpalin/story/510219.html)
In those same articles, they detail how she attempted to fire several city employees for not supporting her in the election. What does that remind you of? That's right, Karl Rove, Alberto Gonzales and the politicization of the Department of Justice! (http://rawstory.com/news/2008/Conyers_subpoenas_Karl_Rove_0522.html)

So to sum it all up with some more fun facts:

  • She was elected Alaska's governor a little over a year and a half ago. Her previous office was mayor of Wasilla, a small town outside Anchorage. She has no foreign policy experience.1
  • Palin is strongly anti-choice, opposing abortion even in the case of rape or incest.2
  • She supported right-wing extremist Pat Buchanan for president in 2000. 3
  • Palin thinks creationism should be taught in public schools.4
  • She's doesn't think humans are the cause of climate change.5
  • She's solidly in line with John McCain's "Big Oil first" energy policy. She's pushed hard for more oil drilling and says renewables won't be ready for years. She also sued the Bush administration for listing polar bears as an endangered species—she was worried it would interfere with more oil drilling in Alaska.6
  • How closely did John McCain vet this choice? He met Sarah Palin once at a meeting. They spoke a second time, last Sunday, when he called her about being vice-president. Then he offered her the position.7
At the end of the day, I can safely say that I'd do a better job as Vice President than this kook.

No Longer Silent

So a lot has been happening on the political scene since my last post. Most importantly, I believe the 2008 Presidential Campaign has turned a corner. Below is a quick summary of happenings in the past few days of the race:

1. When asked how many houses he has, McCain answered "I'll have my staff get to you." Interestingly enough, McCain is the one attempting to paint Obama as elitist and out of touch, and yet McCain pays his butlers and maids a total of $270,000, $50,000 more than the median housing cost in the U.S.!

2. The U.S. and Iraq just agreed on a timetable (yes, the dreaded "T" word) for U.S. troop withdrawal. One staple of McCain's recent attacks is as follows: "Obama would rather lose a war in order to win a political campaign" because he wants to withdraw from Iraq prematurely (in his opinion). McCain can now officially be viewed in the same light as the Flat Earth Society, the Holocaust deniers and those who still believe in Bigfoot...oh wait, I thought we finally found him - whoops!

3. McCain continues to question Obama's overall judgement, saying he does not question Barack's patriotism, just his judgement. Well, let me steal a post on Digg for that one:

"When last fall he suggested bombing Pakistan if we had actionable intelligence you all laughed at him and called him an idiot. Then Bush did it. When he called for Timetables for withdrawal from Iraq (a war which we won a long time ago - we beat the Iraqi Army and Sadaam was executed- how is that a loss? It's been a civil war between Iraqi's since then) you all called him an idiot and today Condi Rice slipped into Baghdad and voila- Agreed to TIMETABLES. When Barack has been shouting for more troops in Afghanistan, you all laughed at him, but just yesterday the Pentagon sent 12,000 new troops there. It seems like Barack has pretty good judgment."

That's just three quick points I wanted to make before I left work for the weekend. I could write for an immeasurably longer period of time on this, but the upcoming conventions and VP pick (Biden?) will be more than enough fodder to fuel my upcoming posts. I shall leave you will Obama's newest ad, which, in my opinion, can't be any better:

2BP as Chuck Taylor?

So I recently found out that my Great-Great Grandmother on my Mom's side was Caucasian. Add that to the Scot-Irish, Cherokee, Choctaw, Spanish and African on my Dad's side and that makes for one hell of a mix! Best of all words - drinking ability of the Irish, resourcefulness of an American Indian, the sexy mystique of a Spaniard and the athletic ability of an African. Gotta love it!

Nigger

Even just reading the word makes your cringe...Over the years I have been a staunch advocate of not using the word, "Nigger". My feeling was that it brought up too many terrible feelings associated with slavery, Jim Crow, dogs, fire hoses, etc. However, after watching Nas' new video, "Be a Nigger Too", I can now officially say that I have pulled a John McCain (flip-flopped). For those of you who haven't seen it nor heard the song, Nas touches on the word, it's origins and why we might be so afraid of it. LINK .

Maybe it was me being young and now I'm grown, but I figured out that running from our past isn't the best thing to do to get over it. Instead, we should all embrace the good and the bad about our history...there's a great audio sample in Nas' song in which Paul Mooney asks (I'm paraphrasing), "How are white people going to ask us not to say the word when they made it up? And they made a song out of it! Eenie, meanie, minie, mo, catch a nigger by his toe..."

For those of you who think music (i.e. Hip-Hop) has gone downhill the past few years, well, you're correct. However, when artists like Nas come out with a song like this, which causes you to re-think the beliefs you had previously thought correct, it's a life-altering event. If I ever have the chance to meet Nas in person, I will tell him that that on June 10, 2008 at around 8:40 am, he changed my life. Thanks, Nasir.

Hillary is Going Down!!

http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalradar/2008/05/hillary-clint-1.html

ABC News' Kate Snow Reports: In an interview with the Argus Leader, Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., took the unusual step of invoking the assassination of Sen. Robert Kennedy, D-N.Y., when discussing the continuing Democratic nomination battle.

"My husband did not wrap up the nomination in 1992 until he won the California primary somewhere in the middle of June, right? We all remember Bobby Kennedy was assassinated in June in California. I don't understand it." Clinton said.

Obama campaign spokesman Bill Burton responded: "Senator Clinton's statement before the Argus Leader editorial board was unfortunate and has no place in this campaign."

Sen. Clinton almost immediately tried to blunt the potential impact of her statement, telling reporters in South Dakota, "Earlier today I was discussing the democratic primary history and in the course of that discussion mentioned the campaigns that both my husband and Senator Kennedy waged in California in June in 1992 and 1968. And I was referencing those to make the point that we have had nomination primary contests that go into June that's a historic fact. The Kennedy's have been much on my mind for the last days because of Senator Kennedy."

"I regret that if my referencing that moment of trauma for our entire nation - particularly for that family - was in any way offensive," Clinton continued. "I certainly had no intention of that whatsoever. My view is that we have to look to the past and to our leaders who have inspired us and give us a lot to live up to and I'm honored to hold Senator Kennedy's seat in the United States Senate in the state of New York. And have the highest regard for the entire Kennedy family."

Clinton's statement stands in contrast to the initial reation from the Clinton camp.

"She was simply referencing her husband in 1992 and Bobby Kennedy in 1968 as historic examples of the nominating process going well into the summer. Any reading into beyond that would be inaccurate," responded Clinton campaign spokesperson Mo Elleithee.

The context of the statement came as Clinton said that reports that her campaign has made overtures to the Obama campaign about her being vice president or about an exit strategy were "flatly untrue."

"This is part of an ongong effort to end this before it's over," Clinton said. "I sure don't think it's over."

Clinton said that perhaps people are forgetting that there were other candidates in the past who were finishing a distant second and who went all the way to the convention. "I rememeber very well 1980, 1984, 1988, 1992," she said.

Clinton also said she would look to "the camp of my opponent for the source of those stories (about an Obama-Clinton ticket)."

"People have been tyring to push me out of this ever since Iowa," Clinton continued.

"Why?" the reporter asked. "I don't know. I don't know. I find it curious. Because it is unprecedented in history. I don't understand it. Between my opponent and some in the media there has been this urgency to end this. And historically, that makes no sense. So I find it a bit of a mystery," Clinton responded.

The reporter asked if she buys the argument that Democrats are seeking party unity.

"I don't because I've been around long enough. My husband did not wrap up the nomination in 1992 until he won the California primary somewhere in the middle of June, right? We all remember Bobby Kennedy was assassinated in June in California. I don't understand it," Clinton said.

Clinton said it was a "historical curiousity" to her that she is being pushed to leave the race and when asked if she thought it had anything to do with her gender, she said she would not speculate but noted that others have.

Clinton went on to argue -- as she has been arguing for some time -- that she is best positioned to beat John McCain in the fall. She cited Karl Rove's electoral maps obtained by ABC News last week as proof that she has a better chance of winning in November.

"Does that mean that my opponent can't win? Of course not. But based on what we know now, if you're a South Dakotan, who would your best bet be to win the White House? It would be me," Clinton said.

Pressed on whether Obama could win the presidency, Clinton said, "Of course he can win. Anything is possible in politics."

ABC News' Jake Tapper contributed to this report.

Chris Rock On...

A few of my favorites:
On John McCain's age: "How you going to make decisions about the future when you aren't going to be here?"
On the primaries: "What are superdelegates anyway? Certain white people count for nine?"
On black people not voting for Obama: "He reminds me too much of me."
On race: "Marion Jones is in jail. Don't you feel safe?" And: "When I heard they were trying to get rid of the word n_____, I told my accountant to buy 800 shares of coon."

Some Days It Ain't Sunny...

On Monday, April 7th of 2008, Joseph Edward Jones, my Grandfather, passed away from pancreatic and liver cancer. Granddaddy Eddie (as I called him) had a profound influence on my life and played a major role in helping me become the man I am today. I will always remember one particular event that turned my life around:

Soon after my parents divorced, I went to visit my Grandparents down in Tarpon Springs, FL...I took the split very hard. Needless to say, my Grandparents weren't too happy with my attitude around the house. I huffed and puffed about every little chore I was asked to do and had a horrible overall disposition. So finally, my Granddad had enough. As we were outside doing some yard work, my Granddad looked at me and said, "Lance, you know you have a PPA." I asked him what that was and he replied, "A Piss Poor Attitude!". I looked at him, thought about it for a bit, and finally realized he was completely right. I was a changed kid.

That's the type of man my Granddad was. He wasn't afraid to tell it like it is and let you have it when you needed it. I cherished every minute of the time I spent with him and I loved him with all of my heart.

Thanks for always being there for me, Granddad...I miss you.

Could be a tough week...

Well, the 2BP has been going through some personal drama these last few weeks, hence the lack of posts. I'll try to get back on a regular schedule at some point, but don't expect too many posts that set your hair on fire...I will ask that you tell someone in your family that you love them. You never know what each day might bring.

Some Thoughts:
  • I think Memphis might be able to pull it out tonight; their guard play is amazing. Rose and Douglas-Roberts are solid
  • Top Clinton strategist Mark Penn quits: wow, so much volatility in this campaign...
Well, as I was typing that last sentence, I just got a call from my Dad. Bad news...I'm out for now.

A Lazy Sunday...

So here I am watching a boring Rockets-Spurs game on ABC and Texas-Memphis on CBS. Ugh. I'm pretty sure I stopped caring about college basketball as soon as I left college. Maybe it was the stink of my unrealized career still lingering...or perhaps when you sit down and really watch a college basketball game you see how horribly played the games actually are. When was the last time you saw back-to-back airballs in the NBA? I can't remember. I just watched a sequence in which the Texas PG DJ Augustin airballed an off-balance 3 followed by a nothing but backboard attempt from a Memphis F. Yuck. Here's some quick game analysis:

  • Memphis PG Derrick Rose absolutely owns Texas PG DJ Augustin. He's making him look silly.
  • Chris Douglas-Roberts is going to be a solid pro
  • Why Gus Johnson isn't announcing every single college game is beyond me...
  • Leftover Chinese food is horrible, yuck!

I Know, I Know...

I promised an editorial. I'm getting there. I was going to write about the crock that is today's justice system but then I got through one draft and hated every word. That took my confidence a bit... so anyway, go here.

This will tide you over until I figure out what I'm going to write about...

Save the Endangered Letter "S".

Guest poet Matty the Blogger sends to us this expose from his alter ego's (Sexy Albert) memoirs. Enjoy Responsibly.

Ms. Badu’s ‘Telephone’ is ringing in my head. My glass of rum smoothly flows. Sip fast… and read slow.

If you receive this blindly, it’s because I wanted to… Well at least in my mind, uphold the last bit of integrity you might associate to me. Lest I see your reaction and face the reality that… it just isn’t so.

Without any more riddles or rhymes, schemes… or wasted time… let me reveal what these lines are meant to show. I need you. I need you to need me. I need you to need me but not to speak to me. Dream of me, but keep to yourself what you think of me. For if you reveal what you think… if you let go of that truth… well then we’ll both be in trouble.

For you see, I’m too high in my own sky to rise any higher or to an occasion that requires you being saved and me being the savior. Oddly, my only desire with you is to let the natural transpire. But … I… Wait…I’m sorry. Let me start at the beginning. That day… That night… whenever it was you might have maybe possibly seen, in me, the person of whom you daydream. That was not me. You see, I showed you the man you wanted to see. But that wasn’t for you. That was for me. And now, well now my makeup is running, and this mask is falling apart, my costume is off, and I just don’t have the heart to play that part anymore. So now, you see me. And this is not for me, this is for you.

So you see me now. This is me. Look at me. Here I am. I know the man in front of you is frightening… but yet still you feel his inviting gaze tantalizing and talking to your senses… telling them to “Stand Up… and Come To!”

See me.
See me Struggle.
See me Pray.

I prayed,

“God.
Thank you. I’m blessed. And now that that’s out of the way let me complain to you about this burden on my chest. Blah Blah Blah and, you’re God, so of course you know the rest. Make me The Man! Nah… Make me The Shit! So, I won’t have to be stressed and maybe I can talk to you a little less.”

Now what you just saw was very simple but you thought it complex. Standing, scratching your head as you appear vexed. Perplexed. Wondering, “How could he? Did he just? He must know that he was talking to God, while still he is only mortal, feeble flesh!”

And yes.

This is true. You are correct. But I told you earlier to keep your comments inside, bottled up and pressed. I’m fully aware of my outward arrogance, but what you don’t see is the man looking to God to find his way. The letter looking for its place in the alphabet.

And when you weren’t looking… he gave me the letter “S”.

At Six I woke.
Seven… I Snacked.
And in my day, I took a
Shit
Showered… With my Smell good and my Sex appeal
I Sensed a Spectacular day. Start to finish it did not disappoint. And so, the days go.
At some points, I Sat and Stared at the Stallions in full Stance in front of me.
At others, I Supplement those Sinful Sodomites for Salad Bites with Stephanie from marketing on the 10th floor. And after Supper… well I’d Shit, Shave, then Shower… and well.. there’d definitely be some Sex. Sucking on her Succulent nipples, lips, and neck.

And then

I’d snack, and subdued while smoking my cigarette, I’d relax.

See… Simple Simons may not see the beauty in that day and the days like it… but I do. And when instead of the outing or occasion with the crew, I prefer to stay at home and rendezvous with this brew, well its because… I do.

You see, I didn’t get:

Shot
Stabbed
Stalked
Or Stuck in traffic on the L.I.E.

And no I wasn’t:

Sorry
Or Sad
Just
Simply glad that I was not infected with an S.T.D.

No, none of that was me. Only the Satisfying “S” answerd my prayer. And to the oint of it…

“What does it have to do with me?” You might ask.

And I’ll respond:

“See honey, the only part of my days that have anything to do with you is the Sex… and well… truthfully… I’m learning to be pretty me-sufficient… And I mean that to say… I wish you life, love, and health… but for now, I’ll do it all by my motherfucking self.”

We need each other black people. I only wish I could’ve shared this with a girl named Beverly before my makeup wore off and she saw me. She was good to me… even after she saw under my disguise.

Grandma, tell Jesus not to forget about me when you meet him. And Say “hello” to Albert & Vernell please.

Some Facts

How about this - about 14% of the electorate is comprised of Black voters. The remaining 86% is split between Whites, Asians, Hispanics and others. Since the majority of Hispanics are voting for Hillary, that means that Barack is winning the majority of the White vote. Why is the media focusing only on facts like Obama winning 91% of the Black vote in Mississippi? I think we all know the answer to that, but don't you think it's pretty remarkable that Barack Hussein Obama is winning the majority of the White vote? I know I do, but it's interesting that none of the media does...

Olbermann's Comment on Clinton

No Words, Pt. II

LINK

"...On Tuesday afternoon, I witnessed a superhuman act of strength. We were gathered inside the West Angeles Cathedral on Crenshaw Boulevard, a mammoth facility with a balcony and video screens that's like a concert hall crossed with a place of the Lord. Only a few funerals each month happen here, mostly for Los Angeles celebrities and people with ties to the church. For Johnnie Cochrane's funeral two years ago, every one of the cathedral's 5,000 seats was famously filled. It's the type of place you wouldn't expect to see a 17-year-old kid lying peacefully in a coffin, not unless he was related to a singer or a politician or something. But that's who was there, and that's who we came to see..."

Sinbad PWNS Hillary

LINK

Sinbad Unloads on Hillary Clinton

Finally, the Barack Obama campaign has found a big gun to help shoot down Hillary Rodham Clinton's self-proclaimed foreign policy experience. And he may be the wackiest gun of all: Sinbad, the actor, who has come out from under a rock to defend Obama in the war over foreign policy credentials.

Sinbad, along with singer Sheryl Crow, was on that 1996 trip to Bosnia that Clinton has described as a harrowing international experience that makes her tested and ready to answer a 3 a.m. phone call at the White House on day one, a claim for which she's taking much grief on the campaign trail.

Harrowing? Not that Sinbad recalls. He just remembers it being a USO tour to buck up the troops amid a much worse situation than he had imagined between the Bosnians and Serbs.

In an interview with the Sleuth Monday, he said the "scariest" part of the trip was wondering where he'd eat next. "I think the only 'red-phone' moment was: 'Do we eat here or at the next place.'"

Clinton, during a late December campaign appearance in Iowa, described a hair-raising corkscrew landing in war-torn Bosnia, a trip she took with her then-teenage daughter, Chelsea. "They said there might be sniper fire," Clinton said.

Threat of bullets? Sinbad doesn't remember that, either.

"I never felt that I was in a dangerous position. I never felt being in a sense of peril, or 'Oh, God, I hope I'm going to be OK when I get out of this helicopter or when I get out of his tank.'"

In her Iowa stump speech, Clinton also said, "We used to say in the White House that if a place is too dangerous, too small or too poor, send the First Lady."

Say what? As Sinbad put it: "What kind of president would say, 'Hey, man, I can't go 'cause I might get shot so I'm going to send my wife...oh, and take a guitar player and a comedian with you.'"

As you may have guessed by now, Sinbad isn't supporting Clinton for president. He's an Obama guy. All because of Clinton.

"What got me about Hillary was her attitude of entitlement, like he messed up her plan, like he had no reason to be there," Sinbad said. "I got angry. I actually got angry! I said, 'I will be for Obama like never before.'"

But he's less ticked off with the Clinton campaign than he is with Saturday Night Live for its Hillary-loving sketches that portray Obama as an unqualified nervous Nelly. What really bothers him is SNL's choice of actor (Fred Armisen) to play Obama.

"My problem is -- you couldn't just temporarily hire a black man to play Obama? You had to put a white man in a black face? You couldn't find a light-skinned brother to play Obama?"

The Clinton campaign doesn't seem amused by Sinbad's commentary or his recollection of the 1996 Bosnia trip as more depressing than harrowing.

Defending Clinton's characterization of her Bosnia mission, campaign spokesman Phil Singer kindly provided experts from news stories written about the trip at the time, including a Washington Post story from May 26, 1996, that said, "This trip to Bosnia marks the first time since Roosevelt that a first lady has voyaged to a potential combat zone."

Singer also cited a Kansas City Star article from September 2000 that quoted Sinbad as describing the situation in Bosnia as "so tense. It was Crips and Bloods." (And that's how Sinbad continued to characterize the situation in our interview Monday. He said, "At the time, we didn't realize how crazy it was between the Bosnians and the Serbs. I didn't realize how much hate was going on.")

Still, defending Clinton against Sinbad the refuter, Singer said, "The sad reality of what was going on in Bosnia at the time Senator Clinton traveled there as first lady has been well documented. It appears that Sinbad's experience in Bosnia goes back further than Senator Obama's does. In fact, has Senator Obama ever been to Bosnia?"

Snarky, snarky!

Spitzer, et al

So, quite the interesting last few days:

Gov. Spitzer gets tagged for tagging prostitutes 7 or 8 times.

Houston Rockets win 19 straight.

Pete Sampras, 36, loses a very competitive match to Roger Federer, 26.

I FINALLY get the dinero to get my Jeep. Fuck you very much BoA and Capital One.

Future-President (knocks on wood) Obama widens his delegate lead with wins in Wyoming and Mississippi (knocks on wood again).

A new study shows that 1 in 4 teenage girls have an STD (WHAAAAA?).

Additonally, I will be on a business trip from next Sunday through Tuesday in the city that once was, New Orleans. I'll try and take copious notes and provide a thrilling account of my time down south. Hopefully I'll have some stories involving, beads, beignets, lack of clothing (not me), and lots of great food. Back soon.

What Foreign Policy Experience?

So Hillary has been boasting about all of her foreign policy "experience". Just how "experienced" is she? Let's site the Chicago Tribune and CNN for some examples:

"Pressed in a CNN interview this week for specific examples of foreign policy experience that has prepared her for an international crisis, Clinton claimed that she "helped to bring peace" to Northern Ireland and negotiated with Macedonia to open up its border to refugees from Kosovo. She also cited "standing up" to the Chinese government on women's rights and a one-day visit she made to Bosnia following the Dayton peace accords.

Earlier in the campaign, she and her husband claimed that she had advocated on behalf of a U.S. military intervention in Rwanda to stop the genocide there.

But her involvement in the Northern Ireland peace process was primarily to encourage activism among women's groups there, a contribution that the lead U.S. negotiator described as "helpful" but that an Irish historian who has written extensively about the conflict dismissed as "ancillary" to the peace process.

The Macedonian government opened its border to refugees the day before Clinton arrived to meet with government leaders. And her mission to Bosnia was a one-day visit in which she was accompanied by performers Sheryl Crow and Sinbad, as well as her daughter, Chelsea, according to the commanding general who hosted her.

Whatever her private conversations with the president may have been, key foreign policy officials say that a U.S. military intervention in Rwanda was never considered in the Clinton administration's policy deliberations. Despite lengthy memoirs by both Clintons and former Secretary of State and UN Ambassador Madeleine Albright, any advice she gave on Rwanda had not been mentioned until her presidential campaign." - LINK

Now, it seems to me like Hillary has inflated her record on most things from Heathcare to Education, but this really caught my eye. And having already "been in the White House" and experienced the political process, she has to be the best candidate, right? Well I ask this, would you feel comfortable with a nurse performing brain surgery on you just because she's assisted a doctor in a few surgeries?

It's Time for the Birdman to Fly

BIRDMAN

Shoutout to Montego8...HE'S BACK!!

The Morning After...

LINK

So here we are, the morning after...I feel a bit unsatisfied. Like a quickie. Used and just thrown away. I'm speaking about last nights election results, of course. I was hoping that there could be some sort of resolution, but Hillary, despite her having no possibility of winning, insists in staying in the race. Not to mention she floated the idea of sharing a ticket with HER as the Prez...ugh. Ok that's enough venting, now let's talk about a much more important issue.

PUPPY INCIDENT

Now I'm sure you all have seen this. Some messed up Marine threw a puppy off a cliff. Don't laugh, this is serious stuff. I mean, this one puppy is waaaay more important than this statistic. I'm so happy the media decided to throw all of their resources into covering the death of this poor, poor puppy when over half a million civilians have lost their lives from this "war".

Sarcasm aside, how messed up are we as a people that we care more about a puppy than the deaths of half a million civilians? That's the disgusting part, not some jackass who gets off from killing a puppy (if the video was real). Let me know what you all think...what's also interesting is how up in arms people were over the Michael Vick thing when PETA killed over 85% of the animals it took in. Nuts.

Man punched over urinal etiquette

A New Zealander ended up in court after punching a man over a breach of urinal etiquette.

Edward Aldridge, 47, punched his victim twice after he used the urinal next to him in a pub in Christchurch.

Aldridge accused his victim of looking at him, reports Metro.

Speaking in his defence, counsel Liz Bulger said: "This incident arose from what I understand to be urinal etiquette.

"When the victim spoke to the defendant he was effectively smirking. The defendant was outraged."

Sentencing Aldridge to 50 hours of community service, Judge Raoul Neave said: "This is exactly the sort of behaviour that makes people afraid to go to town."

New Week, Fresh Start

Big weekend for the 2BP - sold the car, sold the motorcycle....One step closer to financial freedom, I suppose. That being said, I'm pretty sad that the bike is gone. The feeling of riding a motorcycle really is indescribable (sorry for the cliche). I've also been a bit under the weather with some cold/flu/bronchitis combination, I never really can tell the difference. I'll come back strong with reaction on tomorrow's voting results. It's a big day for both Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton. Let's hope that whatever the results are tomorrow, they are clear and without question. Could be the last hurrah for Clinton.

I'll be picking up my next car this weekend (hopefully Capital One cooperates) so I'll also have some pictures and perhaps video from my exploits with the Wrangler. Also, I want to start a poll for potential names...I've had Veronica, Claudia and a few others, but since this is an American car, it has to be a strong name that elicits chopping wood, exploring, conquering foreign allies and chasing the American Dream...

I've attached a photo of the Jeep, so I'll take some nominations for names and then put them up in a poll...the winner will be announced sometime next week!

Random Thoughts and Meanderings...

Thoughts post 1 Pinot Noir, some good conversation and some alone time...it's rambling time. Everything I'm about to write is completely unplanned and unedited. Apologies for either not making sense or being too brutally honest.

A friend told me today that he thinks life is transient up until you settle down, get married and pop out a few children. I admit being a bit depressed when confronted with his assertion and as a result, I continue to think about my life's transiency even now as I type. I look back at the past decade and yes, it has absolutely flown by. The sojourn that was my teenage years was followed by my early 20s, which has both dragged on at a Billy Madison-esque reading level and flown by at Mach 3. =But what knowledge can I glean from these years? It's hard to take one specific thing away from them, but I feel as if I learned something. But what?

At times, I think that something is an ever-growing knowledge of self. Deep introspection can be a very difficult thing if you aren't willing to be completely honest with yourself. It can be especially difficult if you don't like something about the person you find inside of you. A few years back I found something within myself that I did not like and my response was to try and drown him away with Jack Daniels. Not the best course of action, but at that time I was unequivocally not strong enough to deal with any level of negative self knowledge. How have things changed since then? Another difficult question...I tend to believe that the hard times tested me in such a way that I came out through the storm a far better man. And on that note, I'm spent...

Shady! Even Nader Can Be Bought!

LINK

Whenever this story breaks, it will be huge. Back in 2000, multiple republicans donated huge sums of money to Ralph Nader, bolstering his campaign. Wow. I'd like to say I'm surprised, but not really. Old story, but still worthwhile.

More Dirty Tactics from Hillary's Camp

LINK

Now this is ridiculous. I know Hillary is trailing in every single poll, but attempting to paint Barack as some Islamic extremist is nuts. There's several inherent problems with what she's trying to do:

1. Historically, US Presidents, Congressmen, and Government officials all dress up in the traditional dress of whichever country they are visiting. (see below)

2. Attempting to play on the country's fears of 9/11 is shameful. Invoking anti-Muslim sentiment over and over again to try and win an election is as low as Flo-rida (without the catchy hook). Haven't Muslims suffered enough in the last 7 years from politicians stereotyping a religion that preaches love based on the work of extremists who have drastically mis-read the Qur'an?

"The ink of a scholar is worth a thousand times more than the blood of a martyr." - The Prophet Muhammad

3. Not only is Hillary making herself look bad, but she is coming dangerously close to fracturing the Democratic party AND setting herself up for a defeat whenever she's up for election. People discuss her legacy and what impact going negative will have on the way people view her. I can tell you this - if she continues on this course of action, her name will forever be associated with dirty politics, fear-mongering and stereotyping all for the sake of politics.

Shame on you, Hillary! Shame on you!

HUNTINGTON - A CSX Transportation conductor is trying to goose his employer in federal court after he was attacked by a goose in a railyard.

Aaron E. Richards filed a FELA lawsuit Feb. 4 in U.S. District Court in Huntington against CSX.

On April 23, 2005, Richards says he was working as a conductor at the Keyser Receiving Yard near Ravenswood and was performing a brake test on a CSX train.

"As plaintiff performed the required inspection, a goose which was previously known by defendant to have nested in its yard area, suddenly jumped out from under one of the railcars, striking plaintiff, and causing him to fall," the complaint states.

Richards claims his injuries were caused by the negligence of CSX.

He lists injuries as past and future pain, past and future medical treatment, loss of earnings and impairment of future earning capacity and loss of enjoyment of life.

Richards seeks damages in excess of $75,000 as well as costs and other relief. He seeks a jury trial.

Richards is represented by Huntington attorney W. Michael Frazier and William Kvas of the Minneapolis law firm of Hunegs, LeNeave & Kvas. The case has been assigned to Judge Robert C. Chambers.

Obama as Commander-in-Chief

LINK

Explain to me again why people are having reservations believing Barack Obama can be a successful commander-in-chief? He took heat for advocating the exact same course of action last year. Low and behold a few months later our current administration takes the EXACT same course of action. Amazing.

It's also funny how they criticize Barack and his views on foreign policy. Why have an open discussion with Iran? Why talk with Russia? I ask you this - what can be gained by not talking with our so-called enemies? Maybe if we would have talked with Iraq we would have realized that they did not, in fact, have WMDs and in turn, did not enter a war on false pretenses. Wake up, America! It's time for change!

Obama's Blueprint for Change

Barack Obama's Blueprint for Change

Everyone take a look at some of what Barack has to offer. The more I read the more I love. I fully believe that Barack knows what's right for this country. Which other candidate would allow the public to look at every bill passed in Congress before signing it? Which other candidate would put an end to no-bid government contracts, ending the reign of the Halliburtons' and Blackwaters' of the world. Who else would fight to bring back Arts and Sciences in schools instead of having students learn simply to pass standardized tests? Our nation is at a crossroads and Barack is the only one with a GPS. Make the right choice!

Random Musings after President's Day

I want to apologize to Mr. Silver for not satisfying his thirst for daily reading material. I decided to take President's Day weekend off and concentrate on celebrating our former Presidents with a bottle of Jack and lots of dozing off on the couch. President's Day is an interesting holiday - I fully understand and acknowledge the impact (both positive and negative *COUGH George Bush!) that all presidents have had throughout history. That being said, it's interesting how some companies choose to give their employees President's Day but not MLK's birthday off, and vice versa. Who decides what should be an "official" holiday versus a "floating" holiday? Some kind of council of Fortune 500 HR execs who meet each year in Bermuda sipping daiquiris, sporting t-shirt tan (burn) lines and hitting on the 16 year old towel girl? I really don't know. I submit that we come up with a new national holiday; something that epitomizes where we are as a country today. This could be good or bad. Here's a few examples from the top of the dome:

- National Overeating Day: This is great because we could just go ahead and replace Thanksgiving for what it really is - a day to eat so much you have a hard time not defecating all over yourself after your fourth portion of turkey and mashed potatoes.

- Large SUV Day: On this day, we will commemorate the first time a soccer mom in a Chevy Suburban backed into a parked car while "lugging" her one child and groceries in the back. And wasting a gallon of gas in the process.

- Screw Over/Stereotype a Minority Day: Ever wanted to really stick it to DaQuon, that wily associate over in marketing? Today's your day! You could pass over a well qualified Hispanic man for a promotion, talk "jive" to your Colored, I mean Negro, I mean Black friend or offer some cup o' noodles to your Asian roommate in exchange for some help on a math problem. Wait, that's everyday!!! (Sorry, couldn't resist)

Now it's your turn - any ideas for a new holiday? Let's hear them!

WTF is the NAACP doing with itself?

LINK

For those who aren't up to date with this story, the NAACP Chairman, Julian Bond, is pushing to have the delegates from Michigan and Florida counted towards the democratic race. This is wrong on a few levels - the DNC warned every state very clearly that there would be repercussions if any state moved their primary up. To paraphrase Top Gun, Michigan and Florida knew the rules and they broke them. Why shouldn't they suffer the consequences? In kindergarten we learned that we would be placed in timeout when we acted up. Those two states are getting exactly what they deserve. And no, I'm not saying this because I'm a Barack supporter, but because I'm a rational person that understands that you get punished when you break the rules (I know this all too well). So to close, I'm The 2nd Black President and go f*%@ yourself, Mr. Bond.

Guest Columnist - "Eating Chicken With Amerie"

Alright everyone, here's the first of hopefully many guest contributions. Some good stuff here from an old college buddy...enjoy!

I told folks I’d write about women this week.
So I’m the ghost pen on the pad and the guest voice on the beat.
And
Know that I mean every word you’re about to read.
One man, many women, same story, common theme:

Chicken … More or Less.

The more I thought about the whole situation.
The less I cared. You see, the more I tried to bring myself to the table in a truthful and open manner, the less I got from you in return. Moreso, the less you cared. So what did I do? I gave you more of what you asked for. Less attention. More space.

But when I gave you more space. The less I cared about Us in the long run. More of my future plans were turned into to less emotion toward women in general. And of course… it worked like magic (unintentionally). Well, more or less that is. Because the less I gave a flying cow about any one woman, the more they saw fit to notice me! Little ole me. So what am I stuck with now…? More women than I could care to deal with, less money than I’d care to be left with. More phone calls, text messages, dates and ‘mornings after’ moments. Less feeling, optimism, taste, and time. You see… when you start to get into the same routine, make the same call (to a different person) every night, eat at the same lunch time diner every week for your lunch dates… all the meals start to taste the same… more or less like chicken.

Ego Tripping.

A misguided individual would view self-confidence, self-awareness, pride in self’s work, and knowledge of self as arrogance.
An insecure individual would enjoy belittling another’s intelligence only to feel more valued in his/her own accomplishments or rhetoric.
A selfish individual would label someone steadfast in his or her convictions and true to themselves as a non-cooperative and ‘difficult’ person.
An immature individual would take kindness, sincerity, and patience lightly.

So… If being confident in my abilities, being aware of my strengths and weaknesses, taking pride in my work, speaking intelligently, being steadfast and true to myself and my desires in life (not yours), and trying to be kind, patient and truthful with all people that I deal enables me to be labeled as stubborn, difficult, and a big headed arrogant asshole while being undervalued… well then I’ll be just that. From now on, it’s quite all right to call me a stubborn, difficult, bigheaded arrogant asshole. And sweetie, you want to know something? I’ll be all of that while I skip out of my office on my way to Ginger’s to meet this week’s date. We’ll just call her “Amerie” for now. She’ll probably order the veggie egg rolls because she’s a vegetarian. Me… I’ll have the pork and noodles. But truthfully, it tastes more less like chicken. And that’s just me. Steady Ego Tripping.

Songs of the week: To be downloaded with the utmost immediacy.

2. Flashing Lights – Colin Munroe
3. Make It Rain – Usher
4. Weerdo – Hollyweerd

Matty the Blogger. Out.

One last thing… For everybody that like’s to leave those little inspirational quotes at the bottom of your emails, here’s a lil something for you.

Sprewell is Effed

LINK HERE

MILWAUKEE -- Former NBA star Latrell Sprewell's home is up for foreclosure and his yacht sold at auction to help pay off the $1.3 million he owes on the boat, according to court filings.

Sprewell, who once turned down a three-year,$21 million contract extension saying, "I've got my family to feed," has apparently fallen on tough times.

RBS Citizens NA, or Citizens Bank, filed a foreclosure suit last week in Milwaukee County for the $405,000 home Sprewell bought in the Milwaukee suburb of River Hills in 1994.

Hold Tight, Great Story for Everyone...

What a night! I have a fantastic story that I will tell at some point tomorrow...all you have to know is that I got a knife pulled on me tonight...

Thursday, February 7, 2008

Some Afternoon Thoughts...

1. After listening to The Cool so much yesterday, I haven't listened to a single Lupe song once...could I be growing tired of the effervescent, positive hip hop that is Lupe Fiasco? I have Young Buck blasting right now, so maybe that answers that question...
2. Jay-Z is starting ANOTHER record label for talent he discovers (because that Memphis Bleek thing really payed dividens).
3. A certain Manny Santana (you know who you are) has informed me that the next time he sees a certain Danjuma he's going to punch him in the face just for the fun of it.
4. I just read this thing that said "Happiness is a sad song". WTF sense does that make?

Peace! And NO Love to You!

Mitt Bows Out

Looks like Mitt is Audi 5000 - Mr. Romney wasn't going to win anyway. The Politician formally known as McCain has all but wrapped up the Elephant nomination...

Some Random Thoughts...

5 thoughts after working 14 hours today...

1. Who knew Hillary's campaign would be broke so early in the year?
2. I know they get horrible gas mileage and might not be "green", but I'm a big fan of the Jeep Wrangler - every time I see one I think of Clint Eastwood, cigarettes and hunting black bears (man stuff).
3. I really miss skipping class to play basketball for several hours straight followed by 2 or 3 32 oz Gatorade.
4. My man crush on Lupe Fiasco is crescendo-ing to its apex after listening to The Cool twice today (Hip Hop Saved My Life is classic).

And finally...

5. I don't know where my hairline is going, but I'm going to keep chasing it as long as I have the stamina!

Fox News at it again...

While Fox awards Huckabee a huge banner celebrating his win in West Virginia (where?), directly below him there are 5 negative news stories on either Obama or Clinton and NONE on any republican candidate. I know Fox gets called on on this kind of BS, but I felt the need to vent...

FoxNews

Call the Waaaahhhh-mbulance!

Boo hoo, Paris. Boo Hoo.

*Wow - Must have been tough for the parents to drop their kid like that. I hope the parents made it out ok...

VOTE!!!!

Everyone get out there and vote - in order for me to become the 2nd Black President there has to be a 1st!

Zales Can Get Turked by a Syphilitic Bear

That's right, the title's passive English, I don't give a damn. Valentine's Day is a load of crap too - why don't you just make everyday fun and special if you're in a relationship? Why buy cards and flowers and candy and go to a nice dinner or adopt a three-legged puppy to impress a girl? These are all hypothetical questions because we all know the true answer: vah-jean.

Here's another thing - the diamond industry says spend 3 months' salary on an engagement ring? That's a load of crap! They just to give everyone a reference point and rob them blind by withholding the supply of diamonds! And if I learned one thing from Blood Diamond it's that Djimon Hounsou didn't escape from those Sierra Leone diamond mines to date Kimora Lee Simmons for nothing...nevermind the whole Leo DiCaprio thing, I haven't figured out that connection yet. And now I'm rambling. Back to the New Adventures of Old Christine...I mean basketball! Basketball!
